Welcome to the School of Business and Management Studies (SOBAMS) at Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU), a dynamic hub for entrepreneurial excellence, innovation, and business leadership. At SOBAMS, we are committed to equipping our students with practical skills, industry-relevant knowledge, and an entrepreneurial mindset, ensuring they thrive in today’s ever-evolving business environment. We focus on nurturing ethical business leaders and problem solvers who will drive economic growth and sustainable development in Ghana and beyond.

School Of Business & Management Studies

INTRODUCTION

The School of Business and Management Studies (SOBAMS) was established in the 1992/1993 academic year to run tertiary programmes in Accountancy and Management Studies. In the 1994/1995 academic year, Marketing Studies was added to the list of programmes being run by the School. Again, the School in its bid to provide a wide range of programme opportunities for students to choose from introduced Purchasing and Supply Studies in the 2013/2014 academic year.  In the 2020/2021 academic year, the School in its quest to train students with entrepreneurial skills introduced Entrepreneurship and Agribusiness Management programme.

The School of Business and Management Studies continues to demonstrate resilience, resourcefulness and initiative in its endeavours. A case in point is the School’s foresight and leadership in the mounting and running of the four-year Bachelor of Technology in all five (5) Departments.

The School has ordered its priorities towards a prosperous School/Faculty of Business and Management Studies, where students are proud to learn, and faculty and staff are satisfied to work. The School also has an incubation Centre that nurtures students’ ideas and offers them the entrepreneurial skills to enable them to start a business on their own.

MISSION STATEMENT

To provide high-quality career educational experience to business and management students through technology-driven, competency-based training, applied research and innovation in collaboration with industry.

VISION STATEMENT

To become a model innovative, technology-driven, entrepreneurial Business School in Ghana with local, national and international influence.

To realise our vision, we have set strategic objectives to be achieved in the short, medium, and long term. In the next one to two years, we aim to enhance student learning through modern digital tools and case-based teaching methodologies, expand training programmes for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and strengthen partnerships with industry players to increase student employability. Over the next three to five years, we plan to establish a fully functional Business Incubation Centre. We will leverage the £4,000 donation from the THINK HUB Network to support student and community-based start-up training. Additionally, we seek to increase research output in reputable journals, enhance faculty development through PhDs and professional certifications, and expand the reach of our entrepreneurship and business sustainability radio programme. Beyond five years, we aspire to position SOBMS as a regional centre of excellence, develop new postgraduate programmes in Business Analytics, Strategic Management, and Entrepreneurship, and establish international collaborations with universities and research institutions.

Our School has already made remarkable strides in business education and industry engagement. We have successfully trained SMEs in digital marketing, customer service, and social/business networking, ensuring that small businesses in our region are equipped with the skills needed for growth. Our strong collaboration with professional bodies and industry players ensures that our curriculum remains relevant to market demands. Additionally, our faculty members actively contribute to research and publish in Scopus-indexed and internationally recognised journals. We are also proud of our ongoing partnership agreement with Florida Gulf State University in the United States of America, which provides our students and faculty with international exposure and collaborative opportunities.
